Abstract

Abstract : ( BJOG 2016;123:608–616) A prolonged second stage of labor is known to be associated with increased risk of certain maternal complications, such as infection, urinary retention, hematoma, and ruptured sutures in the early postpartum period. Urinary retention can lead to other adverse consequences for the affected woman, including bladder denervation, detrusor atony, and long-term voiding problems. This current population-based cohort study was undertaken to study the association between prolonged second stage of labor and these early postpartum complications.
