Abstract

Abstract : The Conservative Party in the UK entered into the General Election in 2015 with a pledge to require all large companies and public bodies to give three days' paid volunteering leave to their employees. With implementation seemingly as far away as ever, this paper examines the genesis of the proposal, the reaction it engendered from business and the voluntary sector, and the barriers to its introduction.
