Abstract

Graphical abstract: Abstract: The aerial parts of Artemisia amygdalina Decne yielded ludartin (1 ), a cytotoxic guaianolide in bulk quantities. Ludartin was converted into antitumor arglabin via a simple and efficient three step reaction pathway. The reaction process involves a regioselective ring opening, followed by stereoselective epoxidation and finally the selective dehydration to afford the desired arglabin in excellent yield (51%, overall yield). This methodology makes Artemisia amygdalina Decne an easily accessible alternate source of arglabin (6 ).
