- Abstract : Doubling the surface per volume : This cover art depicts how the interpenetrated growth of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) can increase the material's surface area per unit volume. The inner surfaces can become available for hydrogen adsorption and, therefore, the interpenetrated MOF possesses a strongly increased volumetric hydrogen storage capacity in comparison with a conventional, non‐interpenetrated MOF. The group led by Dr. Michael Hirscher at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems studied many different MOF structures and established a linear correlation between the absolute volumetric hydrogen uptake and the volumetric surface area.
