- Abstract:
- Abstract : Self‐build is all about 'dweller control' – involving people in the creation of their own living environments.Charles Holland, a practising architect and Professor of Architecture at the University of Brighton, looks at schemes around the world that manifest different approaches to it: from major projects involving state‐commissioned high‐profile architects at the initial stage and encouraging subsequent modifications by residents, to others that give inhabitants free rein within certain planning restrictions, to one where architects are out of the picture entirely.
