Abstract

Abstract : ( Can J Anesth. 2015;62:265–270) Correct placement of epidural catheters can be confirmed by using the epidural stimulation test (EST), a procedure that has been studied in standard obstetric epidurals, but not with the combined spinal-epidural (CSE) technique. The purpose of this study was to determine whether this procedure would be effective in the context of laboring women receiving CSE, as well as to test the hypothesis that a low dose of local anesthetic administered intrathecally during this procedure would not impact the motor threshold current (MTC).
