Abstract

Abstract : The Cover Feature shows the catalytic application of nitrogen doped carbon xerogel (NDCX)‐supported Pd catalysts for selective hydrogenation reactions. In their Full Paper, D. Tang et al. report that the Pd/NDCX catalyst is active and selective for various organic substrates containing C=C and/or ‐NO2 functions, and that the catalyst can be reused after washing with ethanol. Both experimental results and density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the pyridine nitrogen species of NDCX plays a decisive role in the reaction, as it acts not only as the electron‐donating adsorption site for Pd centers, but also as the active site for organic substrates through π–π bond interactions.
