- Abstract: Bitterling Tanakia lanceolata is a small sized freshwater fish species. The unique reproductive behavior makes bitterlings monophyletic. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of T. lanceolata is sequenced to be 16, 607 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, a control region and the origin of the light strand replication. The overall base composition of T. lanceolata in descending order is A 28.3%, C 28.0%, T 26.1%, and G 17.6%, with a slight A + T bias. The mitogenome sequence data may provide useful information to the population genetics analysis of T. lanceolata and the elucidation of evolutionary mechanisms in Cyprinidae.
