- Highlights: An A356 alloy automobile brake bracket is fabricated by a new technology. Good appearance and structure were obtained by casting at 998 K and 66 mm/s. Good properties were obtained by forging at 270 MPa and start-up time of 3 s. The T6 heat treatment resulted in a superior property of the bracket. Abstract: An automobile brake bracket is fabricated by casting–forging integrated forming technology. It is shown that molten pouring speed, forging start-up time, forging pressure and heat treatment strongly affect the structure and properties of A356 aluminum casting and forging parts. Furthermore, high-speed filling results in shrinkage pores and cracks and low-speed filling leads to incomplete filling. Excellent appearance, macrostructure and comprehensive mechanical properties are obtained at pouring temperature 725 °C, filling speed 66 mm/s, forging start-up time 3 s and forging pressure 270 MPa. After heat treatment, the hardness, tensile strength and elongation to fracture are 58HRB, 335 MPa, 18.4% respectively.
