Abstract

Abstract : Historical overview of the major milestones and discoveries in dendritic cell science. Abstract : Over 40 years of research into the field of DCs has revolutionized our understanding into the activation and regulation of the immune system. This minireview discusses the major breakthroughs in DC science that have paved the way to the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology‐Medicine awarded to Bruce A. Beutler and Jules A. Hoffmann (for their discoveries in innate immune recognition) and Ralph M. Steinman (for his discovery of the DC).
