- Abstract: In this communication we have studied the molecular interaction between a common antibiotic norfloxacin with a phospholipid 1, 2-dipalmitoyl- sn -glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC), an important component of cell membrane using Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Pressure-area (π-A) isotherm as well as Brewster angle microscopy (BAM) study confirm the incorporation of the drug onto the biomembrane. Presence of norfloxacin enhances the fluidity of the biomembrane. Maximum fluidity occurred at lower pressure within 5-15 mN/m regions. Interaction between the drug and phospholipid was found to be attractive in nature. BAM study gave visual evidence of the incorporation of drug onto biomembrane.
