- Abstract : A simple one‐pot method was used to prepare a range of manganese oxide nanostructures of different nature (MnO, MnO2, Mn3 O4 ) and shape, to be explored as MRI contrast agents. The availability of redox states of Mn required a special combination of techniques to unequivocally identify the phase of the materials. From the imaging point of view, while MnO nanostructures behave as classic T 1 contrast enhancers, MnO2 nanourchins emerge as efficient responsive probes, superior to MnO2 nanosheets, able to increase their signal over 140‐fold upon activation under oncology‐relevant conditions.
