- Abstract: In acidic & alkaline tap water the corrosion behavior of brass was investigated using weight-loss measurements and electrochemical techniques such as corrosion potential, and cyclic polarization. At near neutral conditions the corrosion potential values are low and lies in passivation regime of E-pH diagrams which corresponded to the formation of stable passive film on brass surface. Brass corrode assertively at low pH due to dezinficaztion process and corrosion potential is higher at high pH due to breakdown of passive films formed on brass surface which results in the formation of copper and zinc compounds. It was revealed in Tefal regime of cyclic polarization scan that high polarization resistance at near neutral and at pH 1 and 12 the low polarization resistance is the indication of high corrosion rate.
