Abstract

Alexis Rockman has produced allegorical paintings of key environmental issues, from the industrial revolution to global warming. His first retrospective, "A Fable for Tomorrow, " at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, is a testament to this artist's exactitude and spectacular imagination, encompassing natural history, science fiction, and popular culture. Just like Rockman's multifaceted work, the book combines mythic narrative and factual reportage.
