Abstract

Abstract : A photoactive self‐assembled monolayer (SAM) containing phthalimide chromophores can bind an alkyne‐terminated poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) polymer to the surface of the SAM upon exposure to UV light. The alkyne groups can then be used to bind species bearing azide groups via a Cu‐catalyzed 1, 3‐dipolar cycloaddition reaction (click chemistry). The method provides a general approach to generate functionality, and in this case "clickable" functionality, to the surface of a material.
