Abstract

Highlights: Water box nozzle, made of cast precipitation-hardened stainless steel failed in wear. Lower hardness and improper micro structure confirmed that the material did not undergo proper heat treatment after casting. Based on the failure analysis a heat treatment cycle was recommended. Significant improvement in hardness value was observed after heat treatment.
