- Abstract: This paper presents an analytic solution of a three-dimensional Soil-Structural Interaction (3D SSI) model in which the building and foundation are idealized as cylindrical thin-rod and rigid hemisphere. The ground is a stress-free elastic, isotropic, homogenous half-space, and excitation is vertically incident plane P-wave. Analytic three-dimensional (3D) solutions are presented which satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions at the half-space surface. Foundation motions, relative responses of building and surface displacement of soil around building are analyzed and discussed. A comparison with related two-dimensional (2D) SSI close-form solution is also described. Abstract : Highlights: Analytic solution of a 3-dimensional Soil-Structural Interaction model. Previous such analytic solution exists only for 2D SSI by SH waves. 3D Spherical wave functions of zero-stresses at half-space surface. Analytic expressions representing the spherical-wave functions. Waves calculated at higher frequencies than all previous cases.
