- Abstract: CdS, a II-VI family of semiconductor with a band gap of 2.42 eV used as buffer layer in the of CIGS solar cells. In the present investigation, we studied the effect of [S]/[Cd] ratio values to obtain uniform CdS film over the substrate size 300 mm x 300 mm.Film thickness, structure, morphology and optical properties were measured. X-ray Fluorescence and optical profilometer was used for the determination of thickness. The structure of CdS films was found to be hexagonal. The optical transmittance of the films was found to be > 70% and the band gap was determined using Kubelka-Munk equation.
