- Abstract:
- Abstract: Phagocytosis by astrocytes is important in the developing brain and in central nervous system lesions. Astroglial phagocytosis usually contributes to the repair of damaged lesions, but, depending on the local milieu, astrocytes can become activated "A1" type astroglia, which release neurotoxic substances and accelerate regional damage.
