Abstract

ABSTRACT: Group supervision has gained in popularity due to cost-effectiveness. However, a conceptual framework that adequately explains its benefits has yet to be articulated. Research findings are mixed. Participation in a group enhances supervisees' learning by exposing them to alternative points of view and bolsters confidence, but fears of being judged and poor time management undermine its utility. In this article, the author presents a model of group supervision that integrates key supervisory tasks with core responsibilities associated with group work practice. Case examples illustrate how the supervisor integrates the two sets of responsibilities to create a unique learning environment.
