- Abstract: Accurate springback prediction by finite element simulation requires the use of accurate material models to describe the deformation behavior of the sheet metal that are properly calibrated with data from mechanical property tests. In this work, in-plane biaxial tensile tests of cruciform specimens were conducted to obtain the yield loci of a 980 MPa grade multiphase steel (MP980). Yield criteria including the Hill48, Barlat89 and Barlat2000 functions were applied and compared to model the yield behavior of MP980. Tension-compression tests were conducted to obtain true stress vs. true strain curves under loading and reverse loading paths in order to determine parameters of the Yoshida-Uemori nonlinear dynamic hardening model. Finite element simulations with LS-DYNA were performed to predict springback behavior for comparison with measurements of stamped U-shaped specimens. It is shown that the selection of accurate yield criteria (e.g. Barlat2000 with order of 8) combined with the Y-U model increases the accuracy of springback prediction of the side-wall curl for the U-shaped specimens.
