- Abstract: Surface roughening is an undesirable phenomenon in industrial practice. This work is aimed to study on the surface roughness controlling of AA6061 sheet under uniaxial tension. Firstly, the crystal plasticity model was used to analyze the effect of grain size and crystallographic orientation distribution on the surface roughness evolution. The simulation results showed that the roughness after uniaxial tension depended approximately linearly on the grain size, and exponential on the texture distribution. Then the heat treatment experiments were carried out to research the influence of pretreatment process parameters on grain size and crystal orientation distribution. The experiments results indicated that the changes of grain size in ND and orientation distribution were small over the annealing time. Based on those results the surface roughness controlling curve was proposed in this paper, which represented the effects of the pretreatment process parameters on the surface roughness under uniaxial tension. This curve could be used as a guide to control the surface roughness. The uniaxial tensile test is performed to verify the correctness of the surface roughness controlling curve, which shows a favorable agreement with the surface roughness distribution tendency predicted by the curve.
