- ABSTRACT: Effect of substitution of Sm 3+ on various properties of barium titanate has been studied. Barium titanate (BT) and its Sm 3+ substituted derivative has been synthesized using solid state reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis clearly indicated decrease in lattice constant of BT on Sm 3+ substitution. Grain size increases significantly with the substitution of Sm 3+ . Sm 3+ substituted BT sample possesses higher dielectric constant and better piezoelectric properties.
