- Abstract: The particle penetration coefficient, particle deposition rate and air infiltration rate are important parameters to evaluate the osmosis on the outdoor and indoor concentration of fine particles. Real-time indoor and outdoor particle mass concentrations and carbon dioxide volume concentration were measured in classrooms. Based on mass balance models of fine particle and carbon dioxide, non-linear regression was used to calculate the particle penetration coefficient, particle deposition rate as well as air infiltration rate from integral mass balance equations of fine particle and carbon dioxide which share the variable of air infiltration rate. The particle penetration coefficient, particle deposition rate and air infiltration rate can be calculated. According to the result of two experiments on a teaching building in the classroom, when the value of the air infiltration rate were 0.180h -1, 0.187h -1, 0.122h -1 and 0.094h -1 ; the penetrating coefficients were 0.868, 0.998, 0.999 and 0.924; the deposition rates were 0.135h -1, 0.140h -1, 0.168h -1 and 0.121h -1 " respectively. The study proposed a method to determine particle penetration coefficient, particle deposition rate and air infiltration rate from monitored indoor and outdoor concentration levels of particle and carbon dioxide.
