Abstract

ABSTRACT: The relationships among the lacustrine organic matter enrichment and paleosalinity, paleoredox, paleoclimate, and paleoproductivity proxies have been investigated based on the analysis of major, minor, trace elements of lower part of third member of Eocene Shahejie Formation (Es3 L ) of Zhanhua depression in the Bohai Bay basin. The results of geochemical proxies indicate that the organic-rich shale of Es3 L is formed in the brackish-saline lacustrine environment and suboxic-strong reducing condition in the Zhanhua depression. The high total organic carbon content occur at the period of late expanding system tract and early high stand system tract of the Es3 L due to the high paleoproductivity and anoxic preservation condition.
