- Abstract : ( Anesth Analg . 2015;120:1099–1103) Dexmedetomidine, an α2-andrenergic receptor agonist, is ideal for use during craniotomy requiring intraprocedural speech or motor functional mapping because it has the advantage of titratable sedation and analgesia with minimal respiratory depression. Mannitol is used to manage increased intracranial pressure and volume during neurosurgical procedures.
