- Abstract: Herein, we report the successful fabrication of environmentally benign and cost-effective microbial sensor that takes advantage of nanotechnology enabled engineering of optoelectronic behaviors of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) encapsulated silver nano colloids. The silver (Ag) nano filler based nanocomposite systems were developed in particle stabilizing PVA matrix and were spin coated on the glass substrate. The state of art characterizations substantiates the successful fabrication of polymer nanocomposite based E.coli sensors. The fabricated nanocomposite films were characterized for X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–visible and current (I) - voltage (V) behaviours. The XRD analysis substantiates the presence of Ag nanostructures in the polymer matrix. The optical band gap studies accounts an appreciable decrease in energies associated with inert-band electronic transitions from 5.2 eV to 4.3 eV. The sensor performance towards E.coli has been evaluated by I–V measurements in water medium. The obtained results supports 2 wt% of nano colloid is the optimum content of Ag nano colloid in PVA that exhibits maximum E.Coli sensing abilities.
