- Abstract : ( BJOG. 2015;122(5):663–671) Although maternal sepsis is uncommon in developed countries due to the availability of antibiotic therapy, bacterial sepsis and fulminant sepsis can occur and result in maternal death. This prospective study aimed to determine the incidence of maternal bacteremia during pregnancy and 6 weeks' postpartum, characterize the gestation or postpartum period at which sepsis occurs, identify the causative organisms, examine antibiotic resistance, and review maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes.
