Abstract

Abstract : Surv Anesthesiol 2016;60(2):54–55 Delirium is associated with adverse patient outcomes, such as increased time on the ventilator, longer stays in the intensive care unit (ICU), and greater cognitive impairment after ICU discharge. As there are few treatment options for delirium, an awareness of which factors increase the risk of delirium in the ICU is essential, in order to better understand delirium itself and to design effective prevention programs, as well as to build more precise multivariable models, the results of which are highly dependent on which confounding variables are accounted for.
