Abstract

Abstract: In this paper we present the psychometric properties and initial validation of the alternative inventory measuring the Big-Five factor of International Personality Item Pool (IPIP-Revised). One of its main features is that the scores obtained are free from acquiescence bias. The IPIP-Revised has a simple five-factor structure, satisfactory reliability indices (internal consistency and temporal stability), evidence of concurrent validity with the NEO-FFI scales, gender and age differences between groups, and predictive validity of the frequencies of several categories of specific activities. Results suggest that IPIP-Revised is a valid option to measure personality traits in our population, and that it could be useful as an auxiliary tool in psychological assessment. Highlights: IPIP has a simple factorial structure when the acquiescence has been controlled. One of its main features is that the scores obtained are free of acquiescence bias. The scales had high internal consistency and appropriate temporal stability. IPIP showed concurrent validity with the NEO-FFI. Scale independently contributes to explain the frequency of recreational activities.
