- Abstract : Objective: Aim of the study was to elucidate possible association of KIF6 gene Trp719Arg polymorphism with the changes of the arterial wall in patients with hypertension. Design and method: We included into study 120 patients with hypertension (58 (43.8%) men and 62 (56.2%) women). The average age of 63, 4 ± 13, 5 years. 20% of patients had type 2 diabetes, 37.5% smoked, 8.3% had a history of stroke, 25% - myocardial infarction. All patients underwent color duplex scanning of carotid arteries with measurement of the intima-media thickness (IMT). The stiffness of the arteries was evaluated by measuring the PWV on the segment of the carotid-femoral and carotid-radial artery. The study was performed on the automated computer system Complior Colson (France), per standard procedures. Polymorphic markers were identified by PCR-RFLP in real time. Results: The frequency distribution of genotypes of polymorphic marker Trp719Arg KIF6 gene in the studied group corresponds to the equation Hradi-Weinberg equilibrium and were as follows: Trp/Trp - 40.8%, Trp/Arg - 43.4%, Arg/Arg - 15, 8%. Carriers Arg / Arg genotype had a significantly greater IMT of carotid arteries compared to carriers of other genotypes as a right (0, 98 ± 0, 034 mm and 0, 85 ± 0, 027 mm respectively, p = 0.023) and left (0, 93 ± 0.023 mm and 0, 80 ± 0, 039 mm respectively, p = 0, 028. Carriers of the Arg/Arg genotype also had higher central aortic pulse pressure (50, 0 ± 2, 19 mm Hg vs 42, 2 ± 3.21 mm Hg,Abstract : Objective: Aim of the study was to elucidate possible association of KIF6 gene Trp719Arg polymorphism with the changes of the arterial wall in patients with hypertension. Conclusions: Thus, we identified association of Arg/Arg genotype of KIF6 gene Trp719Arg polymorphism with an increase in the IMT of the carotid arteries and presents of arterial stiffness. … (more)
