- Abstract : Objective: Phosphatase and actin regulator 1 (PHACTR1) gene encodes a protein, that belongs to the phosphatase and actin regulator family. It is important in reorganization of actin cytoskeleton, endothelial cell survival and plays an important role in atherosclerosis. As atherosclerosis is directly correlated with arterial hypertension, we tested the hypothesis weather the rs9349379 of variant of the PHACTR1 gene is correlated with increased risk for arterial hypertension. Design and method: The study included 108 hypertensive patients and 112 population controls. We tested the association of the SNP rs9349379 of PHACTR1 gene with the risk for developing arterial hypertension. The studied variants were genotyped by using TaqMan genotyping assays. Genotype and allele frequencies were calculated and associations with disease were estimated using χ 2 SPSS 19. Results: 108 hypertensive patients mean age 67.84 (±8.78) years on combination antihypertensive therapy were included. They were with difficult control. The mean hypertension history was 11.98 (±8.91) years. The mean Home Measured Blood Pressure Values were: 142.59 (±18.81) mmHg for the systolic, 83.33 (±10.37) mmHg for the diastolic and 58.84 (±13.60) mmHg. For the Office blood pressure the values were: systolic 145.44 (±25.39) mmHg, diastolic 85.37 (±12.16) mmHg, pulse pressure 60.07 (±15.91) mmHg. The mean age of the population controls was 44.89 (±10.95) mmHg. Conclusions: In this study we found no significant association between the investigated polymorphism rs9349379 and arterial hypertension, despite the role of the encoded protein in atherosclerosis and probably in arterial hypertension. Further studies in larger cohorts are needed to confirm the obtained results. … (more)
