Abstract

Abstract : ( Am J Obstet Gynecol . 2016;215(4):493.e1–e6) In the United States, the clear majority of triplet births occur via planned cesarean section; however, there is limited and conflicting evidence concerning the most successful route of delivery for triplet gestations. Previous data comparing cesarean delivery versus vaginal delivery have significant limitations, including study size and differences relevant to perinatal outcomes between vaginal and cesarean delivery groups. Many do not compare planned or attempted delivery routes but only the actual delivery routes. This study was designed to use a large, multi-institution cohort to compare neonatal and maternal outcomes for planned cesarean delivery and attempted vaginal delivery of triplets. The study determined the likelihood of success for attempted vaginal delivery for a triplet gestation.
