Abstract

Abstract : ( BJOG. 2016;123(12):1938–1946) Preterm birth is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in extremely preterm infants (<28 wk). Smoking or using snuff are preventable risk factors for preterm birth, with up to 8% of preterm births in the United States associated with maternal smoking. Smoking has been shown to have a dose-response relationship with the risk of preterm birth, and the risk increases with decreasing gestational age.
