- Abstract : ( Int J Obstet Anesth. 2017;29:39–44) Despite the fact that infection is the leading cause of injury claims related to neuraxial procedures in obstetric patients in the United States, little has been done to study the aseptic techniques used by anesthesiologists. There are also no guidelines describing optimal hand washing techniques before obstetric epidural procedures. A randomized, controlled investigation was therefore undertaken to assess the effectiveness of 5 different methods of hand washing before insertion of epidural catheters for labor analgesia.
