Abstract : (Abstracted from Nat Genet 2017;49(6):925–934) After fertilization of the oocyte by the sperm cell, the primordial zygote carries 1 copy each of the maternal and the paternal genomes. This genetic information, however, is expressed only after the zygote divides a few times.
