- Abstract : (Abstracted from Aust N Z J Obstet Gynaecol 2017;57:201–205) For women presenting with chronic abdominal and/or pelvic symptoms, defining the cause (endometriosis, irritable bowel syndrome [IBS], or both) is challenging. Women with endometriosis are often misdiagnosed as having IBS, because many symptoms—dyspareunia and diarrhea and/or constipation—are similar to those reported by patients with IBS.
