Abstract

Abstract: This paper proposes several product integration parameters and a method to implement the parameters to improve Joint Force Integration by Design. The parameters support the implementation of the systems integration guidance provided in the Australian Defence's Integrating Operational Concept Document. The proposed parameters and implementation method are presented in the context of the new Defence Capability Life Cycle. The early phases of the new Defence Capability Life Cycle are unpacked and explored in terms of Systems Engineering constructs. The terms Portfolio, Program, Project and Product are explained and what they mean to those working in Systems Engineering in Defence. The method and parameters are explored in more detail through a future maritime example. Through this example several parameters were found to better support system engineering at mid‐high levels of abstraction, to understand justify the main Joint Force integration design decisions of defence capabilities. The most valuable parameters were found to be: Rephrased Integration Need, Importance, Rationale, and Assumptions.
