- GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT: ABSTRACT: Lamivudine (3TC; 2, 3-dideoxy-3-thiacytidine) is a reverse transcriptase inhibitor and used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Because of its potent antiviral activity, chemists investigated a lot of methods for the synthesis of lamivudine and its derivatives. In this review, different strategies adopted by synthetic/medicinal chemists towards the synthesis of lamivudine and its derivatives have been summarized.
