- Abstract: Heat capacity is one of the important material selection indices for thermal management; nevertheless, the heat capacity of two-phase composites has received relatively little attention. In the present study, a model two-phase system, Al2 O3 -NiAl composites, is prepared. The NiAl content in the composites varies from 14 wt% to 93 wt%. The heat capacity of the composites in the temperature range from 100 °C to 500 °C is then measured. The experimental data for the heat capacity of composites deviate from the values predicted by the rule of mixture. Since many defects are likely formed at the interface as a result of thermal expansion mismatch, the deviation is related strongly to the amount of interface within the composites.
