- Abstract: In this study, a facile method was employed for synthesis of amorphous ceramic nanoparticles from the commercially available BS290 polymer. The polymer precursor was found to be a silane compound using gas chromatography technique. The polymer was processed by sol-gel and pyrolysis methods and the product was characterized by FESEM, BET, FTIR, XRD and TG techniques. The synthesized particles were found to be amorphous silicon oxycarbide (SiOC). Particles of the ammonia derived powder were nano-size and the surface area of the powder was 191 m 2 /g. It was found that the synthesized powders in the base medium were finer (nano-size) as compared to that produced in the ethanol medium. Graphical abstract:
