Abstract

Abstract : The cover picture shows the plume of ions created in the ESI source of a mass spectrometer while sampling the key intermediate of the Ugi four‐component reaction (U‐4CR). In particular ESI‐MS has been employed to disperse the fog on the mechanisms of the Ugi and Ugi–Smiles reactions by intercepting and characterizing unstable, non‐isolable intermediates. Proof of the Mumm rearrangement, the last step of the overall U‐4CR reaction path, has also been gained. Details are discussed in the Short Communication by F. De Angelis et al. on p.7087 ff .
