- Abstract: Geopolymers are an emerging class of cementitious binders which possess a potential for high temperature resistance. This is synthesized by alkali activation of aluminosilicate based raw materials with a much smaller CO2 footprint than traditional Portland cements, and display very good strength and chemical resistance properties as well as fire resistant property. Various industrial byproducts like metakaolin, rice husk ash, cement kiln dust, bottom ash, blast furnace slag, iron making slag etc as raw materials have been used for the preparation of geopolymers because they contain aluminosilicate as the basic constitiuent. Different waste products have different physical, chemical and mineralogical characteristics and hence will give different extent of fire resistance to geopolymer cement, mortars and concretes. In this paper geopolymer cement mortars were prepared by using three different raw materials such as fly ash (FA), ground blast furnace slag (GBFS) and calcined clay (CC) in presence of silica fume. Sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate were used as alkali activators. Curing were done by conventional heating and microwave heating and compressive strengths were determined. Fire resistant properties were studied at 600, 800 and 1000°C.
