- Highlights: The corrosion resistance of Fe-Cr-Mo-B cast steel was 5 times higher than that of H13. M2 B (M = Fe, Cr, Mo)-type borides played an important role in improving the corrosion resistance of Fe-Cr-B cast steels in molten aluminum. Cr-rich Fe2 B-type borides transformed into period layered structures. M2 B (M = Fe, Cr, Mo)-type borides had an effect of root. Abstract: The corrosion resistance and interfacial morphologies of novel Fe-Cr-Mo-B cast steels in molten aluminum have been studied. The result indicates that borides, especial the primary Cr-rich Fe2 B, play a key role in improving the corrosion resistance of Fe-Cr-Mo-B cast steels. They are embedded in the intermetallics (corrosion products of the Fe substrate) and act as root to prevent the intermetallics from falling off effectively. The corrosion resistance of Fe-Cr-Mo-B cast steel in molten aluminum is 5 times higher than that of H13.
