Abstract

Abstract : The cover picture shows the uptake of organometallic gold(I) N‐heterocyclic (NHC) complexes, bearing a fluorescent coumarin moiety, in cancer cells and the resulting anticancer effects. Notably, the most effective compound of the reported series bears the 1‐thio‐βD ‐glucose tetraacetate ligand, which may enhance its cellular uptake, therefore making the compound more cytotoxic. Once inside the cells, the gold compound may target the selenoenzyme thioredoxin reductase and induce mitochondrial damage. Details are discussed in the Short Communication by E. Bodio, A.
