Abstract

ABSTRACT: The use of private corrections has grown to over 400 facilities in the United States. The staff are of particular importance in facilities operating on a tight profit margin. Maximizing profitability depends upon minimizing workplace factors that detract from staff performance and/or create costly strain. This study explored organizational trust and its link to fear of being hurt at work. A path model was tested to explore how various workplace variables relate to perceptions of organizational trust as well as how personal characteristics and organizational trust are associated with fear of injury. The results indicate that organizational trust appears to be one variable that influences staff perceptions of fear of injury. Increased levels of organizational trust decrease the fear of being injured at work.
