- Abstract: The ongoing development of an optimised procedure for the measurement of 90 Sr in decommissioning samples using the latest generation triple quadrupole inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-QQQ-MS) is presented. The procedure incorporates digestion, and separation from interferences using a combination of wet chemical and instrument-based separation using the ICP-QQQ-MS reaction cell. The key factors under study are the procedural time and limits of detection achievable compared to existing radiometric techniques. Highlights: A procedure for measurement of 90 Sr by ICP-QQQ-MS is presented. ICP-QQQ-MS offers a rapid and novel approach to 90 Sr interference removal. Measurement is preceded by with rapid and robust digestion and chemical separation. Reaction-cell separation of 90 Zr overlap reduces reliance on chemical separation. Instrument-based separation is at the expense of analyte sensitivity.
