Abstract

Abstract: This paper reports the results of a user study comparing the use of a traditional hierarchical tree interface with an associative graphical interface to select controlled vocabulary terms for document classification. The results suggest that users prefer to have both the hierarchical and associative map rather than the hierarchical tree alone and tend to ascribe more categories when using the experimental interface.
