Abstract

Abstract: Four dimeric mononuclear sandwich‐type tungstophosphate clusters of Na12 H[Fe III (HPW7 O28 )2 ]· 44H2 O (1 ) and Na14 [M(HPW7 O28 )2 ]· 44H2 O {M = Co II (2 ), Cd II (3 ), Mn II (4 )} were successfully synthesized by reaction of Na2 WO4 · 2H2 O, H3 PO4, and CH3 COOH with FeCl3 · 6H2 O, Co(CH3 COO)2 · 4H2 O, CdSO4 · 8H2 O, and Mn(CH3 COO)2 · 4H2 O, respectively. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis revealed that1 –4 are essentially isomorphous and crystallize in the triclinic space group P $\bar {1}$ . Complexes1 –4 consist of two [HPW7 O28 ] 8– units incorporating a single Fe III, Co II, Cd II, and Mn II ion, respectively. Furthermore, the electrocatalytic behaviors of1 –4 in the reduction of nitrite were investigated. Abstract : Four new sandwich complexes were formed in which two [HPW7 O28 ] 8– lacunary Keggin clusters encapsulate a single transitional ion to give clusters with the general formula [M II (HPW7 O28 )2 ] 14– (in which M = Co, Cd, and Mn). [Fe III (HPW7 O28 )2 ] 13– was found to display moderately good electrocatalytic activity towards the reduction of nitrite.
