Abstract

Abstract: Two different crystal forms, [Ln4 (Fpht)6 (phen)6 (H2 O)4 ]· n H2 O (Ln = Eu1, n = 14; Tb2, n = 12) and [Ln(Fpht)(HFpht)(phen)(H2 O)] (Ln = La3, Eu4, Tb5 ) were obtained from the one‐pot reaction of Ln III ions with 3‐fluorophthalic acid (H2 Fpht) and 1, 10‐phenanthroline (phen). Complexes1 and2 are centrosymmetric tetranuclear molecules with two crystallographically different Ln III ion environments, [Ln(1)O6 N2 ] and [Ln(2)O4 N4 ]. The complexes have a tridentate bridging Fpht ligand and a bidentate terminal Fpht ligand. Complexes3 –5 show 2D networks with [LnO7 N2 ] polyhedra. There are two kinds of ligands, Fpht and HFpht, which adopt chelating‐bridging/monodentate and bidentate‐bridging coordination modes, respectively. The La III complex shows ligand‐centered fluorescence. Eu III and Tb III complexes display red 5 D0 → 7 F0–4 and green 5 D4 → 7 F6–2 characteristic luminescence, respectively. Intriguingly, white‐light emission was produced when Eu III and Tb III were codoped into the 2D La III complex. Abstract : The one‐pot reaction of Ln III with 3‐fluorophthalic acid and 1, 10‐phenanthroline gives tetranuclear molecules (Ln = Eu, Tb) and 2D frameworks (Ln = La, Eu, Tb). White‐light emission was achieved through doping of the frameworks.
